Real Estate Online Courses – What Should you Study?
You juggle many daily duties as a working professional and it may seem almost impossible to fit in education to pursue a fulfilling, lucrative career in real estate. With online distance learning, you can take real estate classes at your own time and pace rather than having to attend scheduled classes. Because distance learning is so flexible and convenient, the Washington Post reports that by 2008, one in ten students pursuing higher education will be enrolled in an online learning program.
Imagine moving mountains to make money in real estate! Selling land, selling houses, listing houses for sale and determining the value of homes are a sampling of the exciting professions available in real estate. Distance learning courses are offered online in several areas of the real estate profession, such as:
Real Estate salesperson or brokers license.
To sell houses, land or other real property, you need a real estate license. This course will prepare you for the licensing exam with courses in forms of ownership, recordation, rights and interests in land, license law, agency, rules and regulations, contracts, closings and closing costs, seller’s net, leases, title transfer, finance, appraisal, Fair Housing and taxes. At the end of the required course, you can take the final exam with a proctor, such as a librarian. A student who passes the final exam is qualified to take the State Real Estate Licensing Examination to work in real estate sales. Students may also pursue a brokers license after performed as a salesperson. A real estate broker is allowed to transact business for their own company and employ other people who hold a real estate license.
Real Estate courses to prepare for exams.
If you are anxious about taking state examinations to become a real estate salesperson or a real estate broker, you can take preparation courses online prior to the big test. Preparation courses traditionally offer practice questions, activities to help you remember the material covered in the course, a list of relevant real estate terms and basic tips for taking an exam. These courses are not a requirement to take the real estate examination but they help to put many students at ease about taking the test.
Real Estate courses to meet continuing education requirements.
When you earn you real estate license, continuing education is required to maintain the license and qualify for renewal. Distance learning gives busy real estate professionals a chance to fulfill these necessary continuing education requirements while they continue to earn money.
Real Estate courses in home inspection
Real estate inspectors educate buyers about the physical condition of a perspective home to assist them in making a wise decision. Inspectors ensure a home is suitable to reside in and does not violate local laws according to the guidelines of the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHITM). The online course in real estate inspection teaches you the basic standards of performance for a residential home inspection written report.
Real Estate courses in appraisal.
Requirements for appraisers vary from state to state but all students basically have to complete certain courses and pass a state licensing examination. Real estate appraisers decide the value of a home based on its condition, amenities and the current market value of similar homes in the area.
Distance learning gives you an accessible way to learn how to become real estate professionals. For current realtors, online courses are a flexible way to fit continuing education into your hectic schedules. With online education, you can land that long-awaited, lucrative position in real estate you always dreamed of.

A Castle in the Backyard $19.95 In one of the most beautiful river valleys in Europe, in the region known as Perigord in southwest France, castles crown the hills, and the surrounding villages seem carved all of a piece out of the local stone. In 1985, in the shadow of one of these medieval castles, Betsy Draine and Michael Hinden fell in love with a small stone house that became their summer home. Like any romance, this one has had its ups and downs, and Betsy and Michael chart its course in this delightful memoir. They offer an intimate glimpse of a region little known to Americans–the Dordogne valley, its castles and prehistoric art, its walking trails and earthy cuisine–and describe the charms and mishaps of setting up housekeeping thousands of miles from home. Along with the region’s terrain and culture, A Castle in the Backyard introduces us to the people of Perigord–the castle’s proprietor, the village children, the gossipy real-estate agent, the rascally mason, and the ninety-year-old widow with a tale of heartbreak. A celebration of a place and its people, the book also reflects on the future of historic Perigord as tourism and development pose a challenge to its graceful way of life. Winner of the 2002 August Derleth Nonfiction Award, awarded by the Council for Wisconsin Writers |

After the Fall $24.95 According to author Steve Bergsman, the next decade will produce multiple investment currents in real estate. This book will help the sharp investor find the right current and stay the course for a long, profitable ride. By separating the asset classes that will remain stable from those that will continue to lose value going forward, Bergsman offers an essential roadmap to the changing real estate market. As a result, savvy investors will be able to capitalize on opportunities created by the trillions of dollars in mortgage-backed investment vehicles that essentially became worthless for a moment in time in 2007. |

At the Tomb of the Inflatable Pig: Travels Through Paraguay $16.78 A wildly humorous account of the author’s travels across Paraguay-South America’s darkly fabled, little-known island surrounded by land. Rarely visited by tourists and barely touched by global village sprawl, Paraguay remains a mystery to outsiders. Think of this small nation and your mind is likely to jump to Nazis, dictators, and soccer. Now, John Gimlette’s eye-opening book-equal parts travelogue, history, and unorthodox travel guide-breaches the boundaries of this isolated land, and illuminates a little-understood place and its people. It is a wonderfully animated telling of Paraguay’s story: of cannibals, Jesuits, and sixteenth-century Anabaptists; of Victorian Australian socialists and talented smugglers; of dictators and their mad mistresses; bloody wars and Utopian settlements; and of lives transplanted from Japan, Britain, Poland, Russia, Germany, Ireland, Korea, and the United States. The author travels from the insular cities and towns of the east, along ghostly trails through the countryside, to reach the Gran Chaco of the west: the green hell covering almost two-thirds of the country, where 4 percent of the population coexists-more or very-much-less peacefully-with a vast array of exotic wildlife that includes jaguars, prehistoric lungfish, and their more recently evolved distant cousins, the great fighting river fish. Gimlette visits with Mennonites and the indigenas, arms dealers and real-estate tycoons, shopkeepers, government bureaucrats and, of course, Nazis. Filled with bizarre incident, fascinating anecdote, and richly evocative detail, At the Tomb of the Inflatable Pig is a brilliant description of a country of eccentricity and contradiction, ofbeguilingly individualistic men and women, and of unexpected and extraordinary beauty. It is a vivid, often riotous, always fascinating, journey. |

Chesapeake Bay in the Civil War $155.36 At the start of the great Civil War, the Chesapeake Bay was a crucially important piece of watery real estate, with North and South struggling for its control. Up the Potomac, the Chesapeake’s second-largest tributary, lay the capital of the United States; up the James, the Chesapeake’s third-largest tributary, lay the Confederate capital. Whoever controlled the Bay would determine the course of the war. On the Rappahannock and other rivers of the region, fierce and tragic battles were fought. Down the Bay, the greatest American army ever assembled waged war. In Chesapeake waters, naval warfare was transformed forever, and on the rivers and the open Bay, the Civil War was finally won. This thoroughly readable narrative covers events in Chesapeake country, from the months preceding the conflict to shortly after the death of Lincoln. Throughout the war the Bay was a marshy danger zone crawling with privateers, smugglers, and spies. It was a place where classic army-navy operations were carried out, where runaway slaves became contraband, where brother literally fought brother, and where freedom was denied, for the sake of preserving freedom. |

Panorama Camera Base is an automatic systemfor making panorama, spherical and 3D rotation photographs quickly, easily and affordably. Panorama, Spherical, and 3D rotation photographs and presentations are much simpler now that digital cameras and software can stitch several digital pictures together. With the included Cool Stitch and 3D Maker software, virtually anyone can make their own panorama, spherical, and 3D rotation photographs in minutes. Julius Knipl, Real Estate Photographer $7.09 From one of the most poetic and gifted comic-strip artists working today–andauthor of The Jew of New York –comes the first collection about his beloved protagonist, Julius Knipl, Real Estate Photographer. From the Publisher Julius Knipl (the word means nest egg in Yiddish) is short, overweight, and of an uncertain age. He wouldn’t dream of going out into the street without a tie, jacket, and fedora. His devotion to conventional dress, his thin mustache, and his acceptance of his marginal existence suggests that he actually belongs to a vanished generation. Although Knipl is never without his camera, he seldom takes photographs. His function is to observe, reflect, and in the course of his small adventures, catalogue aspects of city life that elicit nostalgia. The city in which Julius Knipl lives, loafs, and perambulates is the nirvana of luncheonettes, the Atlantis of wholesale novelty showrooms, the Valhalla of one desk syndicates, the El Dorado of second story friendship-league lecture halls. (Luc Sante) From Publishers Weekly Katchor (The Jew of New York) creates whimsically poetic comic strips out of the observational found-verse he extracts from the petty commercial economy at the grungy low end of classic city life. Katchor transforms hustling salesmen, obscure municipal agencies, nonspecific ethnics and cheapo real estate brokers into wonderfully comic literary surrogates for the real world cast of smalltime urban capitalism. He’s equally talented at recreating the brooding, sign-clotted, mix-matched architectural ambience of a charmingly dingy and mammoth city in his quirky but precisely rendered b&w pen-and-wash drawings. The guide to Katchor’s unnamed city (it could only be New York) is Julius Knipl, Real Estate Photographer, also the name of the comic strip that Katchor has produced since 1988. This book collects strips published in weekly newspapers from 1994 to 1997, plus one original story. Knipl travels throug |

Lapham Rising $1.01 From The Publisher:Harry March’s troubles begin when Lapham, a self-aggrandizing, ostentatious multimillionaire, commences construction of a 36,000-square-foot house (complete with a cutting-edge air-conditioner that cools his entire eight-acre property) directly across the creek from Harry’s island home in Quogue, in the Hamptons. Harry, an island himself, is something of a wreck and half-nuts, but principled. His wife has left him for an event planner in Beverly Hills; he cuts the polo player out of his shirts; and he speaks mainly with his dog, Hector, a born-again Evangelical and a capitalist who admires Lapham’s monstrosity as a symbol of American progress. But to Harry, Lapham represents everything that is ruining modern civilization. So he sends daily notes to his nemesis by way of a remote-control toy motorboat, which read: Mr. Lapham, tear down that house! When his efforts fail, he turns to politics by other means.Lapham Rising follows Harry’s progress during a single day–through the strange habits of Hamptons social life; the power of local real estate (embodied in Kathy Polite, who advertises her agency by swimming naked from her boat every morning); the odd workings of his own mind, such as it is; and into his elaborate plot to devise a weapon of individual destruction with which to bring down Lapham and all the Laphams of the world. Of course, it backfires.About The Author:Roger Rosenblatt’s essays for Time magazine have won two George Polk Awards, among other honors. His television essays for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS have won him the Peabody and the Emmy. He is the author of eleven books, which have been published in thirteen languages. They include the national bestseller Rules for Aging, three collections of essays, and Children of War, which won the Robert F. Kennedy Book Prize and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. He has written four Off-Broadway plays. Lapha |

Sanditon and Other Stories $22 When the English-speaking world fell in love with Jane Austen’s six great novels, hungering for more, the hunt began, of course, for any unpublished manuscripts she may have left behind. Treasure was found, and all of it is in this volume that rounds out the Everyman’s Library edition of Jane Austen. Sanditon is the novel she was working on in the last year of her life. Its subject matter astonishes: here is Austen observing the birth pangs of the culture of commerce. The setting is a seaside town that is being promoted as a resort. The country-bred heroine, the handsome baronet who models himself after irresistible seducers he has met in novels, the family of hypochondriacs, the mysterious West Indian heiress, and others, play out their satirical or romantic or melodramatic roles against a background hum of real-estate development: modern times loom. The Watsons, begun in 1804 but never completed, tells the story of a young woman, Emma Watson, who was raised by a rich aunt and is suddenly shipped back to the comparative poverty and social clumsiness of her own family: girls explicitly on the hunt for husbands. What husbands they find we will never know. But we can check our hopes that the appealing Emma will make the right choice (she is, incidentally, the only Austen heroine ever courted by a lord) against the author’s plans for her, as recollected by Jane Austen’s sister, Cassandra. Lady Susan, written before Pride and Prejudice, is a complete epistolary novel. It is Jane Austen’s only novel whose protagonist is a villainess, and a denizen of sophisticated London society. The alluring Lady Susan subtly, single-mindedly, and ruthlessly pursues her own fortunes. She bullies her shyyoung daughter. She dissembles, she maneuvers, she manipulates. She makes the reader both pray for her comeuppance and regret that (as a modern novelist quoted in the preface remarks) Austen never again wrote a novel with a scheming widow for its heroine. |

Scenes from the Life of a City: Corruption and Conscience in Old New York $37.99 Glittering and glamorous, New York in the mid-nineteenth century was also plagued by political corruption, sanitation problems, and a growing gulf between rich and poor. In this book, Eric Homberger brilliantly evokes the life of a city through vivid portraits of New Yorkers struggling to reconstruct a sense of community amid the selfish materialism of their urban environment. Homberger focuses on four main characters who played important roles in various reform efforts of the period: Ann Lohman, known as Madame Restell, the world-renowned medical expert, whose services as an abortionist were partly responsible for the creation of a harshly repressive public policy toward abortion that persisted for more than a century; Slippery Dick Connolly, comptroller of New York City, who escaped to Europe with millions of the city’s dollars and betrayed his confederates in the Tweed Ring; Dr. Stephen Smith, a young surgeon at Bellevue Hospital, who was able to show that dozens of cases of typhus had originated in a single tenement on East 22nd Street; and Frederick Law Olmsted, the architect-in-chief of Central Park, who brought into reality a concept promoted by the aristocracy for the benefit of rich and poor alike. In the course of telling the stories of these New Yorkers, Homberger describes a host of other characters: cynical politicians employing the ever-effective language of racism, real estate speculators angrily contesting who was to reap the benefits of Central Park and who was to pay, well-meaning preachers, cunning lawyers, destitute immigrants, curious journalists, wealthy New Yorkers who anxiously feared the city’s mobs, moral reformers, and many more. Wonderful reading, Homberger’s book is also timely, for his account of the struggle to define and create a community within a diverse and contentious city evokes similar struggles taking place in cities today. |

The Water Room $111.08 They are detection’s oddest couple: two cranky detectives whose professional partnership dates back half a century. Now Arthur Bryant and John May return in a case of multiple murder that twists through a subterranean course of the secrets, lies, and extreme passions that drive even ordinary men and women to the most shocking crimes…. They are living legends with a reputation for solving even the trickiest cases using unorthodox, unconventional, and often completely unauthorized methods. But the Peculiar Crimes Unit headed by Detectives John May and Arthur Bryant is one mistake away from being shut down for good. And when the elderly sister of Bryant’s friend is found dead in the basement of her decrepit house in Kentish Town, they find themselves on the verge of making exactly that mistake. According to the coroner, Ruth Singh’s heart simply stopped beating. But why was a woman who rarely left the house fully dressed for an outing? And why was there river water in her throat? Convinced that the old lady didn’t die a natural death, the detectives delve into a murky case with no apparent motive, no forensics, and no clues. And they’ve barely launched their investigation when death claims another victim. Suddenly they discover some very unnatural behavior surrounding Ruth Singh’s death by natural causes-from shady real estate developers and racist threats to two troubled marriages, from a dodgy academician working London’s notorious grey economy to a network of antiquities collectors obsessed with Egyptian mythology. And running beneath it all are the sweeping tentacles of London’s vast and forgotten underground river system. As the rains pour down and the water rises, Bryant and May must rely on instinct, experience, and their own very peculiar methods to stem a tide of evil that threatens to drown them all. From the Hardcover edition. |
